To paraphrase the beautiful George Clooney, "To know me is to bus around with me." This project proved to me that my mode of transportation shapes my frame of thought as well as my photos. My rule of thumb while I had the camera with me was that any moment that I was caught spacing myself out of my surroundings or fixating on the minuscule was when I needed to find a picture waiting to happen. Unfortunately, I don't quite have the cajones to point and snap most of the faces that I love. Buses=fascinating character-filled roughworn faces. So the shot of my shoes is key; not only do I consider my allstars an extension of my soul, it's also my go-to point of focus when I have to hurriedly duck my head because a fellow passenger has noticed my fascinated stare.
Very nice photos. And very nice shoes too ... "my allstars an extension of my soul." Love it.
ReplyDeleteHey, I don't know you (I know the Schwarzmanns) but I just finished looking at every single picture on your blog--way back to 2005-- and I LOVE your work! Don't mean to sound cheesy, but I love how your pictures are just very REAL. Have you ever used/played with one of those really old cameras that you have to put the sheet over your head&camera etc to shoot? I've got one if you're interested. Its a 4x5 Graphic View and is sitting on a wooden Ries tripod. Let me know, and keep up the inspiring work :)

As a fellow bus rider, I appreciate the poetry you have brought to bus travel. UTA should higher you as an ad campaign. In fact, I think I'll write to them now. "Dear UTA, You have lost your way. I am ashamed to call you transportation, let alone my transportation. However, I think I know how you can change, as we are all wont to do . . ."
